Mpho Sebina’s highly-anticipated Alkebulan EP has finally arrived. More than just a musical endeavour for the celebrated Pan-African artist from Botswana, the five-track offering is a heartfelt tribute to Africa’s cultural richness and a powerful celebration of African women. 

Drawing inspiration from Africa’s ancient name, Alkebulan, the EP reflects the continent’s deep heritage and diversity, uniting the voices of female artists from across Africa. For Mpho Sebina, who runs her own management label, Shakti Soul, this project is a personal mission to amplify the female voice in an industry where women are often underrepresented.

Sebina has meticulously curated collaborations with five dynamic artists from different corners of the continent, each bringing their unique voice and musical tradition to the EP. Tunisian diplomat and feminist activist Aya Chebi lends her voice to “Salam”, infusing the track with her passion for youth and women’s rights. Kenyan soul artist Karun, a long-time collaborator of Sebina’s, adds her signature touch to “Maji”, while Ghana’s MiDi Kwakwa ignites “Fire” with her fusion of traditional Ghanaian rhythms and modern beats. 

Botswana’s Lioness Ratang, known for her empowering lyrics, delivers a fierce performance on “Lioness”, while Mopao Mumu from the Democratic Republic of Congo rounds out the EP with “Mon Amour Je Suis Vaincue”, weaving Congolese sounds into an ode to love and resilience. Together, these artists create a vibrant mosaic that blends soul, tradition and activism, all under Sebina’s direction.
