Sean Paul Connects With Bella Shmurda For “Bring It (Naija Version)”

Jamaica and Nigeria unite on the sultry number.

For decades, Sean Paul’s electrifying dancehall anthems have heated up dancefloors across the world, and he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Over the years he has consistently pushed the boundaries and potential of dancehall fusion, and for his latest offering, he’s teamed up with Nigerian streetpop star Bella Shmurda for the remix of the party-starting single, “Bring It“. This marks Sean Paul’s second Nigerian collab of the year, having lent his voice to Young Jonn’s “Hold On”.

“Bring It (Naija Version)” is a reflection of the global reach of Afrobeats and dancehall in 2024: on the track, Sean Paul’s timeless style remains as sharp and gritty as ever, while Bella Shmurda provides a welcome assist with his musings in Yoruba and Pidgin English.

The track masterfully revives “Showtime Riddim”, the energetic beat originally produced by Dave Kelly in the 90s which shaped dancehall music and provided the bedrock for many dancehall hits. “Dave Kelly reached out and said that I could use one of his rhythms,” Sean Paul shared with The Jamaica Star. “And I immediately said, ‘Showtime!’ I was thrilled when he gave me the nod. This year, many artists are revamping classic riddims, but we can all agree that this one is timeless.”

The collaboration between Sean Paul and Bella Shmurda is a fusion of cultures, a celebration of music, and a guaranteed good time. The single is fresh but also possesses notes of familiarity and effortless synergy between the two artists. Tap in!
