Chike’s ‘Son Of Chike’ LP Is A From-The-Heart Ode To Love, Family

Produced entirely by his longtime collaborator, DeeYasso.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Chike is back with his new 12-track album, Son Of Chike.

Produced entirely by his longtime collaborator, DeeYasso—who previously lent his talents to the likes of Dave, Oxlade and Wande Coal—the new album digs deeper into his trademark blend of pop, soul and R&B.

Thematically, Chike covers a lot of ground, exploring his own identity and family heritage, love, heartbreak, and proudly celebrates his Igbo culture. Clearly, the project is resonating with fans around the world because he’s already surpassed 100 million streams, and to celebrate this milestone, Chike recently delivered a knockout performance at a sold-out show at London’s KOKO.

“As I created Son Of Chike, I wanted to pay homage to my roots and the legacy of my family,” says Chike. “The album’s title is not just a nod to my father’s name, Osebuka, but also a reflection of the values and heritage that have shaped me. Each track on this album is a piece of my journey, an exploration of who I am as both an artist and a son. Through the diverse sounds and stories, I celebrate the richness of African culture, the bonds of family, and the universal emotions we all experience.

“Working on Son Of Chike allowed me to delve deep into various themes, from the power of love in ‘Unto You’ with LADIPOE—where I express a commitment to love no matter the circumstances—to the celebration of life and legacy in ‘Egwu’. Each track reflects different facets of human emotion and experience. For instance, ‘Lifetime Love’ is a poignant reflection on the preciousness of time with loved ones, while ‘Apple’ underscores the importance of loyalty and intimacy. ‘Ego Oyibo’ explores the challenges and desires of long-distance relationships, expressing a yearning to be together despite the distance.”

Chike adds that this album “also touches on the complexities of unrequited love, on tracks like ‘Someone’, the bittersweet acceptance of loss on ‘Your Loss’, and the need for accountability and self-awareness on ‘Balance Am’. Through these narratives, I’ve tried to capture the essence of what it means to be human, to feel deeply, and to navigate the intricate paths of life. My hope is that listeners find pieces of their own stories in these songs and feel a connection to the emotions and experiences I’ve shared.”
