Fireboy DML has returned with his first studio album in two years, adedamola, a 14-track voyage celebrating love and a culmination of what he’s learnt about himself since his 2022 offering, Playboy.
Across the album, we get collaborations with the likes of Seun Kuti, Lojay, Lagbaja, Jon Batiste and Spinall. Born from significant challenges and transformative experiences, including dealing with loss, battling self-doubt and navigating his quest for identity, adedamola stands as a testament to Fireboy’s resilience and artistic vision.
“[This album is] a culmination of what I’ve learned in the past couple of years, especially in 2023,” says Fireboy of the inspiration behind the LP. “I’m learning that success isn’t always glamorous—it can be personal and relative to who you are and what matters to you. There are a few songs on the album that really talk about focusing on the things that matter: family, personal health, peace of mind, my relationship with God, and sharing love with the people that really matter to you.”
That learning curve he speaks of has been a steep one: the Nigerian star shot to global fame with the 2021 release of “Peru”, and its subsequent remix with Ed Sheeran. Since then, the YBNL member has been one of the flag-bearers for Afropop across the world.
