The UK’s self-proclaimed ‘Voice Of The Streets’, DJ and host Kenny Allstar, has recruited a cast of UK rap all-stars to feature on his brand-new mixtape, The Future’s Yesterday.
Kenny, aka The General, has departed from the usual street-rap sound and content of his previous drops on this one; instead, he uses his platform to showcase the wealth of talent in the UK’s underground scene. The 12 tracks of The Future’s Yesterday boasts names such as Bawo, BXKS, Novelist, Ashbeck, Blanco and more—all of whom sound right at home on synth-heavy productions from the likes of El Londo, Scott Styles and Yasamoto, to name just a few.
Kenny Allstar’s last release (outside of his heralded freestyle series with Mixtape Madness, Mad About Bars, as well as his Voice Of The Streets platform for BBC Radio 1) arrived in 2020—a collab with grime legend D Double E called “It’s Who”—so The Future’s Yesterday marks a welcome return to dropping original music. Kenny Allstar is a name that demands total respect in the UK; he’s worked his way from being a DJ in the early days of grime to becoming a certified legend, tastemaker and envelope-pusher within UK rap.
Tap into The Future’s Yesterday after the jump, and catch Kenny Allstar on BBC Radio 1/1Xtra every Saturday night.
