Afro-house powerhouse Nitefreak is returning to Zimbabwe with a doubleheader of electrifying performances at Hindé, the Afro-house music event he founded in 2021 to elevate Zimbabwean dance music.
The Bulawayo-born DJ and producer (real name Bheki Mabhena) has carved out a distinct spot at the forefront of Afro-progressive-house, earning acclaim from global heavyweights like Black Coffee, Diplo and Shimza. With a sound that merges deep, cultural rhythms with contemporary beats, Nitefreak’s music has garnered millions of streams, solidifying his place as one of Zimbabwe’s most impactful musical exports.
Since embarking on his musical journey as a self-taught DJ in 2009, Nitefreak has evolved into an international force. Now managed by Deep Root Records, a Forbes-recognised label, he’s become a staple on major Spotify and Apple Music playlists, such as New Music Friday, Electronic Rising and Afro House Nation. And with collaborations alongside artists like Francis Mercier, Magic System and Grammy-nominated duo Amadou & Mariam, his reach extends from Zimbabwe to the global stage: he has seen support from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong (among others) and his music was recently featured in a documentary about the boxing champion Francis N’Gannou.
This year, Nitefreak’s Hindé event series will see its fourth edition in Bulawayo and its inaugural event in Harare. The event has become a cultural hub for Zimbabwe’s dance music scene, providing a platform for local DJs and producers to showcase their unique talents and bring people together through Afro-house music. “Hindé is about creating a space for our community to dance, celebrate, and experience the immense talent Zimbabwe has to offer,” Nitefreak says.
The Harare edition, scheduled for Saturday 9th November, will see Nitefreak headline with support from Samuel Cosmic, Ryan Synth, Mimi & RORI ( House Warming) , Bam Bam Madame and Jay. On Sunday 10th November, the event returns to Bulawayo, where Nitefreak will be joined by Ryan Synth, Samuel Cosmic, Asante Mo, DJ Jewz and Slim T.
