It’s a heavyweight link-up in Olamide’s new video for “Uptown Disco”, a track lifted from his recently released project, Ikigai / 生き甲斐, Vol. 1, featuring fellow Afrobeats giants Asake and FireBoy DML.
Directed by fast-rising Nigerian filmmaker Jyde Ajala, the colourful, cinematic visuals place Olamide on the wing of a plane, Fireboy DML in a California car chase, and Asake on top of a monster truck as they sing about uptown living, having had to go through many trials and tribulations to get to this point of comfortability in life.
“Uptown Disco” is a family affair, with the two featured acts both part of Olamide’s YBNL label, which perhaps explains the seamless transitions between the three artists and their verses. Olamide’s effortless chorus staples their verses together, which sit atop log-drums and silky synths that come courtesy of producers Semzi and Eskeez.
