Spotify Wrapped 2024: Asake Leads as the Most Streamed Artist in Sub-Saharan Africa

The region records 114% growth in music consumption.

The 2024 edition of Spotify’s annual data-led review, Wrapped, is finally here. This year, data from the streaming giant reflects the richness of Africa’s diverse sonic story from afrobeats to amapiano. On the continent and global stage, the thumping energy of afrobeats continues to lead the charge with Asake emerging the most streamed artist in Sub-Saharan Africa. Burna Boy, Seyi Vibez, Rema, Davido, Wizkid, and BNXN all make appearances in the top ten.

Inspite of not making it to the top ten of most streamed artists in the region, Ayra Starr takes the crown as the most-streamed female artist and the ninth most streamed track with her hit, “Commas”, while Tyla leads the EQUAL artist program in Sub-Saharan Africa. New comer, Ayo Maff secures a spot in the top streamed tracks of the year in the region with his Fireboy DML-assisted hit, “Dealer”. However, the entire region agreed with Chike and the late Mohbad’s “Egwu” as the number one track of the year. South Africa’s Amapiano scene is making waves, with tracks like Tshwala Bam and Imithandazo securing spots on the most-streamed list.
