itsENJ Delivers A Sonic Celebration Of Identity With New EP ‘Añurika’

With this release, Chimdi and Otito are solidifying their place as torchbearers of a new era in Afropop—one where joy truly is greater, and the journey is just as important as the destination.

Chimdi and Otito, better known as the Nigerian-American sibling duo itsENJ, have returned with a fresh wave of sound that’s a full-blown cultural statement. Their new EP, Añurika, drops us into a rich tapestry of African pride, lived experience, and boundless joy, all while showcasing their evolving artistry.

After turning heads with their Dappa Way EP earlier this year, itsENJ wasted no time getting back into the studio. This time, they’ve crafted a five-track journey that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the African diaspora while still staying true to their roots in Enugu, Nigeria. The title, Añurika—Igbo for “joy is greater”—sets the tone for an EP that’s as much about celebration as it is about introspection.

Recorded under the January sun in Lagos, Añurika isn’t just another addition to the growing catalogue of Afropop—it’s a love letter to the brothers’ homeland, woven with threads of hip-hop, disco, dancehall, and traditional Igbo sounds. Tracks like “Enjoy Life” and “Napukenda” channel the sun-soaked vibes of Lagos while pushing the boundaries of genre, blending the old with the new in ways that only itsENJ can.

From the infectious rhythm of “Enjoy Life” to the soulful depths of “Where You Dey”, the EP explores themes that hit close to home. “Napukenda”, which means “I love you” in Swahili, is a standout—a sweeping love anthem that captures the nerves and excitement of making the ultimate commitment. Meanwhile, “Ego” and “On God” offer a more personal look at the brothers’ journey, touching on perseverance, faith, and the triumph of the human spirit.

But what really sets Añurika apart is its authenticity. Chimdi and Otito aren’t just creating music—they’re creating a movement. Their sound is steeped in the traditions of their Igbo heritage but shot through with the influence of their American upbringing in the Bronx, NYC, and now Los Angeles. This blend of cultures gives their music a unique edge, making it both globally resonant and deeply personal.

With this release, Chimdi and Otito are solidifying their place as torchbearers of a new era in Afropop—one where joy truly is greater, and the journey is just as important as the destination. Stream the EP in full below.
